The Niger River flows through five countries: Guinea, Mali, Niger, Benin, and Nigeria. The cities of Tembakounda, Bamako, Timbuktu, Niamey, Lokoja, and Onitsha all are situated along it's banks. In addition, there are multiple national parks on the Niger River, including W National Park, National Park of Upper Niger, and Kouroufing National Park. All this along with the amzing city of Timbuktu, nearly 900 years old. Finally, there is the inland delta, teeming with life, plants, and fish. The inner Niger delta has over 1000 species of plants and animals! All of these activities are just the natural ones too! (Wikipedia) The Festival au Désert takes place every year on the outskirts of Timbuktu! More information can be found here: http://www.festival-au-desert.org/. This is just one of the many cultural events that happen along the banks of the Niger each year! So what are you waiting for? Get on down here today!
